Electric trucks are no longer just a dream or a short-haul option. In 2025, several manufacturers have launched new models capable of going over 500 miles on a single charge. With more charging infrastructure popping up across the U.S., especially along major freight corridors, going electric is becoming a real option for regional hauls.
These trucks also come with built-in battery monitoring systems that alert dispatchers to charging needs, battery health, and optimal driving behaviors to conserve power.
One of the most game-changing upgrades this year is the rise of predictive dispatching. Instead of relying on instinct or checking multiple load boards, predictive dispatch apps use AI and real-time market data to help dispatchers choose the best-paying, most efficient loads.
These apps don’t just look at the current rate. They analyze route demand, deadhead miles, fuel prices, traffic, and even weather forecasts to recommend loads that make sense.
Some apps, such as CargoMinds, also give drivers access to their own load metrics, so they can track if they’re getting fair rates or if they could be making more with different routes. This added transparency builds trust and helps drivers make better decisions for their time on the road.
New AI dashcams are now capable of real-time coaching, facial recognition for drowsiness detection, and even automatic safety score tracking. These cams help protect drivers from false claims and coach them toward safer habits, often lowering insurance premiums for companies that use them fleet-wide.
2025 also brings smarter trailers. New trailers are being equipped with tire pressure sensors, weight sensors, and automatic load balancing systems that communicate directly with the truck’s onboard computer or TMS (Transportation Management System).
